Newsletter - 4 February 2008:

Rainy Day Quilt
CHOCOLATE COATED

One of the best lessons I learnt in teachers college was "Don't ask a question if you don't want to know the answer" For instance, if there is a group of children giggling, the question to ask is not,"What are you laughing about?" - you don't really want to know what is amusing if you want them to be quiet. Or if someone is doing something you can't see, you don't ask "What are you doing?" when you just want them to get back to work. Answers can be long and involved and time wasting.

And still it is a guiding factor in my conversations. Don't ask a question unless you want to listen to the answer. I get cross when "How are you" is used as a greeting by people who have absolutely no interest in the answer: kind of a statement rather than a question. A friend who comes from the UK was laughing about it one day, saying that when she first got here she thought people really wanted to know, and she couldn't understand why she kept getting glazed looks as she tried to say how she really was.

Specials
As you may have noticed on the website, this business is for sale.

So I am clearing some old stock. We try to put something different into the Bargain Basement each week, as well as new fabrics each week. Specials can be excellent.

Some patterns on special:
Journey of a Quilter. I have one almost complete set, normally $150 for the set. This lot is missing #10 (which I can get the normal price). The 9 blocks are special, first in first served, for $90 plus $5 post.

Leanne's House, 5 blocks for $40 plus $5 postage, instead of $15 each. I have blocks 1,2,3,4,6, and 10 - just one lot. I can get the other blocks at normal price.

Love is, by Rosalie Quinlan - a set of redwork patterns to make a quilt. I have one each of blocks 3,4,5,6,7,8. Normally $13 each, this lot at $48 plus $5 postage. I can get the rest of the set at normal prices.

You can see pictures of all of these in Patterns

Check out the wonderful Radical Roosters Quilt on the home page of the website. Patterns for this are available at $15 each, or the whole lot for $150 post free. I have plenty of brightly coloured fabrics to make the roosters, and there is a pack of 50, 6 1/2" squares in bright colours to get you started for $33 plus $2 post.

There is just one kit left of the Rainy Day Quilt using the iris fabric shown, but we can make up a kit aspecially for you using any fabric in the shop. See it also on the Home page of the website

Lots of new stock of Beatrix Potter fabrics, as well as Paddington Bear, and Dick and Jane.

All of our fabrics are discounted unless they are in the New Fabrics pages, or already in the Bargain Basement.

Blessings

Dorothy
